ThoroBedŽ
flax straw is a 100 % vegetable
bedding, originating from the flax
plant, which has blue flowers and is
successfully cultivated in the Flemish
polders and in (sandy) loamy soil. The
fibres destined for the textile
industry are situated on the outside
of the flax stems and are separated
during the scutching process. This
process separates the fibres and seeds
from the stems by crushing and
combing. The crushed stems are also
called shives. The flax seeds and
their husks are processed into linseed
oil and feed. Flax straw has been used
for centuries as bedding for cattle,
pigs and poultry. For horses, however,
flax straw was too dusty until a few
years ago.
ThoroBedŽ was one of the first
to solve this problem by means of the
most advanced dust-removing
techniques. Since 1996, the year in
which it was launched, the product has
had overwhelming success.
